A. Lange & Sohne watch company was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange and remains located in its original hometown of Glashutte, Germany. Initially manufacturing pocket watches they began to produce over-sized watches for use by German airmen in World War II. The A. Lange & Sohne watches are amongst the finest luxury watches in the world, combining exacting mechanical precision, beautiful detailing and rich materials. Lange & Sohne produces exclusively brand new mechanical watches, predominantly made of 18 kt rose or white gold or platinum, and the bridges and plates of the movement are made of silver. Dials are generally silver or enamel. The most popular model are the Lang 1 and the Saxonia. The designs themselves are also distinctive from other Swiss luxury brands. Produced completely in house, A. Lange & Sohne watches generally display blued screws, individually hand-engraved balance cocks, gold chatons and three-quarter balance plates.
